Trout Fisherman Magazine
This magazine has been of no end of help during my early years as a novice and still acts as a bible today. New magazines come out but few match the magnetism that this magazine holds. Many a time I would scan through the pages to discover new and wondrous ways of fishing. My first breakthrough I can remember when the “Dog Nobbler” came to life around 1982 (ish)..and it soon became one of my favourites. The fly broke all previous Fly Fishing “daintyness” and is still a favourite for a great many fisherman today. During my early days whilst at Porth County Comprehensive school, Rhondda Valleys, South Wales
I soon joined the Tuesday night Fly-Tying class run by Dave Roberts (Religious Instruction teacher). It was here that my passion for Fly-Fishing really began and soon after I featured in the first ever Junior Fly Fisherman pages of “Trout Fisherman”. As soon as I can lay my hands on it I will post up the article here…..and it wasn’t only once but twice I was featured not long after the first. Twenty years later the article featured again in a 20th Anniversary edition so our School must have made a big impact at the time!.
Here are a few early “Trout Fisherman” badges that the school was given to hand out to our fishing team. The top badge was for an early Benson & Hedges competition that I enetered for Fly Tying.
