Ynysfro Reservoirs

The Association’s waters are Ynysyfro Reservoirs, Newport, Gwent. These are approximately half a mile from the Fourteen Locks, Canal Visitor Centre, High Cross, Newport.
The reservoirs consist of two lakes of 16 and 10 acres respectively, they are well secluded and a good head of fish is maintained by regular stocking. The reservoirs offer fantastic value for money trout fishing with a two fish day ticket (including catch and release) costing £10 for non-members (£5 for under sixteens).

Ynysyfro operates an unlimited catch and release policy with a 2 fish kill limit. Fishing must cease after 2nd fish killed. All fishing will be with fly only using barbless hooks. Season ticket holders will be offered a 100 fish kill limit from unlimited visits to the reservoirs.

Fishermen with no experience of fly-fishing who are interested in joining our association, are welcome to contact any committee member, who will be pleased to arrange for a member to help them get started.

Because the reservoirs are so well established the fly life can be prolific, with plenty of buzzers, sedge, silverhorns, damsels and cranefly present. Nymph and dry fly fishing is particularly productive throughout the season.

Two quality boats are available on the lower reservoir for the use of members and their guests only. A warm welcome awaits all visitors and there are toilet and shelter facilities on site.

Ynysyfro is an important wildlife habitat and particular care is necessary with respect to its wildlife.

Please remember to take your litter and discarded nylon home.

Fishing times start at 7.00 AM from the bank and 7.30 from the boats.
