History
This fly is now over 21 years old and still brings in the fish when all else fails.
The Pattern
Hook: Size 10 or 8 short shank
Head: Split Shot or Gold Bead…Lead shot to be painted all black then add eyes on either side in gaudy colours.
Thread: Black
Underbody: n/a
Tail: Marabou of various colours normally the same as the body
Body: Chennile the same colour as the tail
Rib: Silver or Gold lurex
Hackle: Usually the same colour as the body but instead of just a head hackle tie in a cock feather at the tail and use it as a body hackle to imitate fins on a small fry etc.
A favourite colour Dog Nobbler especially for the start of the season. Note the colour of the eyes painted on with Nail Varnish.
Orange Dog Nobblers are great for overcast days and when lake visibility is low due to weed growth or general murkiness.
This Olive Dog Nobbler catches well throughout the season…It’s very similar to my all time favourite..the Wiggle Nymph
